Reflecting on the Asian American Alliance of San Antonio Annual Luncheon
Yesterday, on February 8, 2025, I had the privilege of attending the Asian American Alliance of San Antonio's Annual Luncheon alongside my esteemed colleagues from the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce-Greater San Antonio (PACC-GSA). Joining me were Dr. Danet Lapiz-Bluhm, Vice Region Chair, Dr. May Zamuco, Secretary, and Dusadee "Pink" Martin, Business Development and Education Committee Chair. It was a remarkable gathering that brought together community leaders, elected officials, and members of various organizations to celebrate and discuss the vision for 2025.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Christina Lew, who set the tone with her inspiring remarks. Her words emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration within the Asian-American community, setting a positive and hopeful tone for the day. Kara Johnson's rendition of the National Anthem was a heartfelt start, echoing the pride and patriotism shared among attendees. Following this, Christina Lew recognized the elected officials and guests, making everyone feel valued and honored. This acknowledgment highlighted the diverse representation and support from various sectors of the community.
Irfan Butt, the 2025 President of the Asian American Alliance of San Antonio, took the stage to share insightful remarks and outline the vision for the year. His passion for community growth and unity was evident, resonating with all attendees. Irfan spoke about the Alliance's goals for 2025, which include strengthening community ties, promoting cultural awareness, and advocating for the rights and interests of Asian-Americans in San Antonio. His vision was met with enthusiasm and support, as attendees recognized the importance of these initiatives in creating a more inclusive and vibrant community.
One of the highlights of the luncheon was the presence of distinguished guest speakers, both of whom are esteemed Asian American leaders. The Honorable Judge Peter Sakai of Bexar County and Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of the City of San Antonio, delivered powerful speeches that emphasized the importance of diversity and collaboration in fostering a thriving community. Their leadership and dedication serve as an inspiration to many, showcasing the significant contributions of Asian-Americans in shaping our society. Judge Sakai spoke about the importance of justice and equality, while Mayor Nirenberg highlighted the city's commitment to supporting diverse communities and fostering opportunities for all residents.
The event was also graced by the presence of Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, Bexar County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert, and mayoral candidates such as Former United States Under Secretary of the Air Force Gina Ortiz Jones, District 8 Councilman Manny Pelaez, and District 6 Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda. Their attendance underscored the importance of this gathering in bringing together influential voices from across the community. These leaders and candidates expressed their support for the Asian-American community and shared their visions for a more inclusive and prosperous San Antonio.
As we enjoyed a delicious lunch buffet, it was a perfect time for networking and exchanging ideas with fellow attendees. The atmosphere was filled with camaraderie and a shared commitment to advancing our community's goals. Conversations buzzed with excitement and optimism, as attendees discussed potential collaborations, upcoming projects, and ways to further support the Asian-American community. The luncheon provided an invaluable opportunity for building connections and fostering partnerships that will undoubtedly benefit the community in the long run.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Irfan Butt, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the year ahead. The 2025 Officers, including Raymond Wong as Treasurer, Romelette Dela Cerna as Secretary, and Mojgan JJ Panah as President-Elect, were recognized for their dedication and leadership. Their commitment to the Alliance's mission and their tireless efforts in organizing such a successful event were acknowledged and applauded by all in attendance.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have been part of such a meaningful gathering alongside my PACC-GSA colleagues.
